When is Camp A LOW HUM 2009?
Camp A Low Hum in 2009 is on a 3 day weekend! That means no excuses for those of you who work or study. You can arrive anytime from 6pm on Thursday Feb 5th, and like previous years, even though there is no “planned” entertainment on the first night, that doesn’t mean that the party doesn’t happen. Load in night at camp is always a good time and gives you a chance to get orientated with the site. The first band kicks off around 10am on Feb 6th. The last bands are on the evening of the 8th, and people are asked to leave by 1pm on Feb 9th.
Homedale?
According to homedale.co.nz, Homedale provides an escape from the bustle of the city, and the kind of warmth and community spirit that has become increasingly difficult to find in the 21st century. Surrounded by green rolling hills, with nearby natural reserves and coastal parks, Homedale offers a safe and healthy environment for bringing up a family, or a quiet sanctuary away from the rat-race. At the same time, the city is only a short drive away with easy access to the Hutt Valley and Wellington Motorway over the Wainuiomata Hill Road.
What is Camp A LOW HUM?
Camp is sometimes foolishly mistaken for a music festival. Its a four day music camp for people who can’t handle music festivals, people who want a smaller audience, more intimate shows, more time to relax, no queues, no stress, good and cheap food, byo, more variety ie: not just bands but a range of activities and goodtimes. It’s a pretty sweet time, but don’t take my word for it, just ask anyone who went in ‘07 and ‘08.
How do you plan on topping 2008?
Don’t you worry about that! Camp 2009 is going to take the best of 2007 & 2008, and bring in a whole new bunch of crazy goodtimes. I won’t be happy this time until i see people crying with happiness. Some stuff you’ll know about in advance, some you won’t. Keep checking back on this site as I spill some of the beans.
Why don’t you tell people what bands are playing?
The philosophy behind Camp is that its more important the vibe that is created then “who” is performing. The freedom of not announcing a lineup means I can book only the best live bands, not bands who have “pull” or have to be popular. My vision is that people can come to camp, not even watch one single band and still have a killer good time. The fact that the band lineup is ridiculously awesome just makes the event insanely sweet.
Camp is as much for the bands as it is for the people going. There are no green rooms, backstage areas, crowd divisions. All the performers are there for the party as much as any punter going.
I have this crazy idea…
Have you got any ideas that you’d like to try out at Camp ‘09? Like Matt Brennan’s “Cobra”, Nick Whites Zombie Movie, The D.I.C.K tape swap etc… ? If you’ve got an idea, email me - alowhum (at) gmail.com and I’ll do my best to get it happening!
I’m going to be flying into Wellington. How do I get to the campsite?
On the website in a wee while will be details of public transport to camp, It won’t be too difficult.
I need to book air travel before tickets go on sale. Can I make sure that I won’t miss out buying a ticket?
If this is you, email me: alowhum (at) gmail.com with “pre-register” in the subject heading and I’ll make sure I hold a ticket aside for you.
Are you still doing sweet all inclusive travel deals?
Yes and no. I am offering a deal of $150 for return travel to those from Chch to camp and back. Bus leaves early morning on Feb 5th and arrives back in Chch evening of Feb 9th. Unfortunately due to petrol almost doubling in price since last camp I can no longer keep the price cheap (petrol being the main part of the cost of bus chartering), also it is totally un-economical to offer the same deal to Dunediners. For me to have the bus come from Dunedin means everyone on it would have to pay $200 including those from Christchurch, so I’m afraid those from Dunedin will need to make their own way to Christchurch to meet with the bus on the morning of the 5th. Travel tickets will be selling from this website from Sept 22nd. I’m afraid I can’t find a good deal for Aucklanders at this stage (blame pres. Bush).
I am also trying to work out a good deal for those from Wellington just needing a ride over the hill. Keep checking back.
What time can we arrive/leave Camp?
Arrive anytime from 6pm Feb 5th. You gotta be on your way outta there by 1pm on Feb 9th. The first band starts at 10am Feb 6th. Don’t be a fool and miss the first act like some suckers did last year.
My band really wants to play at camp. How can we?
Any band who wants can play at camp, through the “renegade room” (below), however, if you want to be on the “official lineup”, best way is to invite me to a show. If you are uber keen, you’ll book a show in Wellington so I can see you, or email me some live video footage. I am setting up the rendegade room HEAPS better then last year, so to be honest, being on the “official” lineup may not be the answer anyway.
Is there a renegade room again?
Hell Yes! This was one of the best parts of Camp 2008, so for 2009 I’m making it even better. Better PA, better backline and an engineer to help set gear up with you. Because of the way I’m staggering bands this year, I’m actually letting bands pre-book spaces at The Renegade Room, though you can’t choose your time, if you are def wanting to play a spot, tell me, and I will put you in the official guide that people get when they arrive. There will be heaps more info about the renegade room from Oct 1.
(RULE: You cannot bring in premade advertising into the camp. All advertising for your party has to be made in arts and crafts)
I really want to DJ at camp. Can I?
Very likely. This kinda got screwed up in ‘08, cause after i had some PA components stuff out, I had to take away the PA from the DJ area and use it for parts. After seeing some awesome DJ sets in the UK though, I’ve been inspired to really make this a feature. Check back on this site for more details in a wee while… I’m working on it..
Are you looking for any “helpers”?
I am looking for a few. If you are responsible and want to do some work at camp in exchange for ticket, hit me a message. alowhum (at) gmail.com
Is Camp R18?
Nope. Camp is for anyone and everyone
What do I bring? Do I need to know anything else?
Check back to this site for more details. I’ll be adding more and more sections over the coming months.
What is the deal with Catering at the site?
There will be like the previous two years, full on catering options of really decent meals for cheap, Camp is BYO food and drink though, so you are more then welcome to pop down to Homedale Village just a few minutes down the road for groceries or whatever. There are two kitchens at camp available to campers to prepare their meals. And, just like the previous two years, we will be running a camp canteen with all your fav old school snacks and beverages.
